The East Bay Jewish community will host its second night of spoken word at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 6 at Congregation Beth Israel, 1630 Bancroft Way, Berkeley.
“… And it was Revealed: An Event of Spoken Word” will feature Jewish slam poets, beatbox performers, musicians and storytellers.
Performers will present their original pieces — poems, stories, songs and short dramatic works — in a casual atmosphere peppered with original musical compositions and hip-hop rhythms.
The line-up includes musicians Saul Kaye and Hyim Ross, beatbox performer Joshua Walters, slam poet Dyanna Loeb (aka Dyna Mic), poet and WWII veteran Kenneth Colvin, Cantor Linda Hirschhorn and a dozen others.
“We are creating a new community of people who appreciate spoken word and want to connect both creatively and Jewishly,” said Leah Safran, event organizer.
The inaugural event of Jewish Spoken Word, “Lights in the Darkness,” took place in December at Beth Israel and drew a standing-room-only crowd of 125.
A $5 donation is suggested. For information, call (510) 843-5246.
