A chilling reminder

Among the old newspapers displayed in “Schindler, The Exhibition,” now at the Petaluma Historical Museum and Library, is an April 28, 1938 edition of the San Francisco Chronicle with a banner headline reading “Nazis to Grab Jews’ Riches.”

The exhibit was organized by the Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and includes, among other things, Schindler’s list — in its original form.

There’s also a chilling photo of SS officer Amon Goeth sitting on his porch with a gun. You may recall the scene from the movie “Schindler’s List” in which actor Ralph Fiennes, who portrayed Goeth, shot Jewish prisoners working below.

Hurry up if you want to see the exhibit, because it ends Sunday, Dec. 13. For more information, visit http://www.PetalumaMuseum.com.

‘Wild’ happenings

Co-chairs of the Contemporary Jewish Museum’s first annual family gala Sam Hamilton, Jen Chaiken, and Julie and David Levine brought their families along to frolic among the “Where the Wild Things Are” monsters that are inhabiting the museum through Jan. 19.

The Maurice Sendak classic is the basis for the CJM exhibit “There’s a Mystery There: Sendak on Sendak.” Among the hundreds of kids and kids-at-heart who also enjoyed the festivities were Lynn Bunim with family members Jane Burrows (her mom), Daniel Kramer and Caroline Kramer; Suzanne and Elliot Felson and children; Joyce Linker and her daughter; and Dana, Rich, Lauren and Sarah Steel.

Still working the room

Susan RoAne, the ultimate mingling maven, writes that her first book “How to Work a Room” is “now an adult book.” That’s not to say it’s X-rated — it’s just that she wrote and published it in 1988, making it 21 years old.

RoAne has written a number of follow-up books on business schmoozing and networking, including “Face to Face: How to Reclaim the Personal Touch in a Digital World.” Visit http://www.SusanRoAne.com to test your own schmooze quotient and to read some of RoAne’s “Pithy Pointers,” such as: Good things do not come to those who wait … they come to those who initiate.
