A fund has been set up to help provide support for Berkeley-based Rabbi Chanan Feld, who was diagnosed with oral cancer nine months ago, and his family.
A well-known mohel who has performed thousands of circumcisions in the greater Bay Area over the past 20 years, Feld recently found out that the disease, after months of treatment, has recurred and spread.
To help support the Feld family in a time of need, a fund has been set up for private donations. Checks can be sent to congregation Beit Midrash Ohr HaChaim, P.O. Box 9215, Berkeley, 94702. The words “Feld Fund” must be written in the memo line.
Donations also can be made through PayPal, by indicating [email protected] as the recipient and “Feld Fund” in the message box. For more information, visit www.lotsahelpinghands.com/c/617304.
Additionally, personal e-mails can be sent to the rabbi at [email protected].
“He appreciates the notes from people the most,” said Zev Padway, a family friend. “His kids are in his room and they read them aloud.”
Feld is the father of Rabbi Dovid Feld, whose June 7 wedding ceremony was the subject of a j. cover story. Dovid married Rivkie Ferris, the daughter of Chabad of Berkeley Rabbi Yehuda Ferris, in a festive Chassidic ceremony in San Ramon attended by more than 450 people.
Ten years ago, Chanan Feld and his wife, Jody, co-founded Beit Midrash Ohr HaChaim, a Torah learning center and synagogue in North Berkeley, along with Noach and Tamar Bittelman.
