Chances are, you’ve heard someone admit he’s suffering from “a case of the Mondays.” You may have even shouted “TGIF” at the top of your lungs after a stressful week at work.
But if you ever experience a Thursday that makes you cry “oy vey,” the Contemporary Jewish Museum will be waiting … with cocktails, music, and more.
The next Oy Vey! Thursday begins 5 p.m. July 2 and is geared toward young adult professionals. There’s no cost, though there is a cash bar and a $5 fee for admission into current exhibits and programs.
Sponsors of Oy Vey! Thursday include Moishe House, the Israel Center’s Tzavta Community (supported by the Helen Diller Family Foundation of the Jewish Community Endowment Fund) and He’Brew Beer.
The event will feature a panel discussion on art and German-Jewish relations in the 21st century with Germany’s Consul General Rolf Schuette, Israel Consul General Akiva Tor and Rabbi Stephen Pearce of Congregation Emanu-El in San Francisco.
The talk is in conjunction with Susan Hiller: The J. Street Project, a photographic installation featuring images of “Jewish” streets, roads and paths in Germany, on display through Aug. 18.
Visitors can also check out the “Jews on Vinyl” listening lounge, a ‘50s-style suburban living room with a sampling of throwback tunes from Jewish-American history. Or browse the “Chagall and the Artists of The Russian Jewish Theater, 1919-1949” exhibit.
Outside the CJM, the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival — another Thursday night activity taking place during the summer — will turn Jessie Square into a downtown, open-air dance party with live bands.
Oy Vey! Thursdays will be held on the first Thursday of the month throug the summer at the CJM, 736 Mission St., S.F. Information: (415) 655-7800 or www.thecjm.org.
