Mission Minyan to welcome its first Torah

The Mission Minyan in San Francisco will welcome a new Torah with a celebration and service on Sunday, May 17.

The celebration will begin at 2 p.m. with a formal completion of the Torah, which will include an opportunity for attendees to fill in the final letters on the parchment (with the help of a scribe).

A reading will follow, and the day’s events also will include live music, dancing and refreshments.

The Mission Minyan is a group of Jews who congregate for services and other festivities.

Sherith Israel hosts job-loss support workshops

In response to the current economic crisis, Congregation Sherith Israel is offering a job-loss support group that will meet weekly over the next six weeks.

Facilitated by licensed psychotherapist Shira Shore, the group will explore coping strategies and include brainstorming sessions on new approaches to emotional and financial stability.
