Berkowitz, Vernon H. In Pacifica, Jan. 6. Age 81. Husband of the late Ann Berkowitz for 40 years. Father of Beth Berkowitz. Brother of Esther Berkowitz. Cousin and uncle to many. Born May 31, 1923, in Superior, Wis. Moved to the Bay Area in 1950 and settled into his home in Pacifica in 1963. Owned and operated Vern’s Coffee Shop in Daly City for 30 years. Active member of B’nai B’rith, and recently the Gateway Lion’s Club. Traveled the world with his wife. Volunteered at Doelger Senior Center in Daly City and the Jewish Home in San Francisco. Services were held at Congregation Beth Israel-Judea in San Francisco with burial at Salem Memorial Park in Colma. Grandmother of Ian, Adam, Tamara and Edward Osharow and Masha Hass. Great-grandmother of Hannah and Brianna Osharow. Her nephew, Rabbi Michael S. Brother of Marian Wronsky of Sunnyvale. Father of Ben and Anna Wronsky of San Francisco. Teacher in Kentfield School District for 33 years. Cabinetmaker. Son of German refugees. Born in Bogota, Columbia. Immigrated to United States in 1949. Graduated from Lick-Wilmerding High School in San Francisco in 1961. Received a bachelor of arts degree in history from U.C. Santa Barbara in 1965. Served in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic where he met and married his wife. Eagle Scout. Assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 43, Corte Madera.
