Peres’ ministry also issued a statement saying that even though it understands the importance of providing security for Israelis abroad, it is “saddened” that the Israeli press was prevented from directly covering a central event in the region that has ramifications on Israel’s relations with its neighbors.
The statement said that in the past few weeks the Israeli embassy in Amman has been working hard to enable Israeli media coverage of the conference.
“When it became clear that the Jordanians could not provide for the security of the Israeli journalists, the journalists decided to abide by the Jordanian requests and return to Israel, and the embassy helped them peacefully leave Jordan,” the statement said.
