At the same meeting, the cabinet rescinded a pre-election decision to grant benefits to World War II veterans. Finance Minister Meir Sheetrit argued against the original pledge, which granted benefits regardless of physical and financial status.

The Treasury and Absorption ministries will now set criteria for qualification. This will save tens of millions of shekels a year, according to Sheetrit.

Opposition Knesset members, however, attacked the process as a cynical election pledge, which was overturned at the first possible opportunity.
