The Bay Area Temple Softball league — or BATS — announced this week that a fourth team has been secured for its July 1 slow-pitch tournament at Piper Park in Larkspur.

Organizer Matt Elkins had been scrambling to find at least one more team when an East Bay–based squad called the DVT All-Stars signed up. The All-Stars, players from the nine-team Diablo Valley Tzedekah league, will join teams from Congregation Rodef Sholom in San Rafael, Congregation Kol Shofar in Tiburon and Congregation Emanu-El in San Francisco.

The teams are coed and made up of players 18 and older. BATS is a nascent undertaking that Elkins would like to see gain steam.

“I think four teams for the upcoming tournament is enough this time around,” he noted. “However, I would love to have more teams join the BATS league so we can play more regularly and against other teams — especially those close to Marin, like some of the congregations in the Santa Rosa area.”

For the July 1 mini-tournament, two fields at Piper Park have been reserved starting at 1:30 p.m., and the first Knish Cup will be on the line. To sign up for a future tournament or to get more information about BATS, contact Elkins at [email protected]
