Message: <br /><br /> If you are having trouble reading this email, you may view this article online at: http://www.jweekly.com/64098/full/64098/dance-film-shakespeare-and-history-in-cordelia/ <br /><br /> <b>Dance, film, Shakespeare and history in ‘Cordelia’</b> <br /> Thursday, January 26, 2012 | by <br /><br /><p>“Cordelia, Mein Kind,” a multimedia performance that combines dance, film and visual art, kicks off this year’s Magnes by the Marsh, a partnership between the Marsh Theater and the Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life.</p> <div class="capDivLeft" style="width: 216px;"><img alt="Dance from “Cordelia”" class="left" height="288" src="/images/uploads/w_photos_2012/zvu01_27_12/AScordelia.jpg" title="Dance from “Cordelia”" width="216" /> <div class="caption">Dance from “Cordelia”</div> </div> Magnes by the Marsh presents theatrical performances that explore contemporary Jewish culture in innovative ways. <p>“Cordelia, Mein Kind” will run Thursday, Feb. 2 through Feb. 5 at the Marsh in Berkeley.</p> <p>Inspired by Shakespeare’s “King Lear,” the 55-minute piece is the brainchild of Jewish Australian artist Deborah Leiser-Moore.</p> <p>It explores familial history and trauma, blending interviews between a reimagined Cordelia character and her late father — a Yiddish-speaking Holocaust survivor who spent much of his life in exile in a Melbourne suburb — with film and other visual imagery.</p> <p>“Cordelia, Mein Kind,” directed and co-written by Meredith Rogers and choreographed by Sally Smith, comes to the Bay Area after two successful runs in Australia.</p> <p>The Marsh is located at 2120 Allston Way, Berkeley. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Feb. 2 and 3, 5 p.m. Feb. 4 and 3 p.m. Feb. 5. Tickets are $15-$50.
