Message: <br /><br /> If you are having trouble reading this email, you may view this article online at: http://www.jweekly.com/58982/full/58982/non-orthodox-taking-over-israel-rabbi-says/ <br /><br /> <b>Non-Orthodox taking over Israel, rabbi says</b> <br /> Thursday, August 19, 2010 | by <br /><br /><p>Israel’s Sephardic chief rabbi wrote that he is concerned that non-Orthodox Jews are taking over Israel.</p> <p>In a letter sent to Israeli rabbis to mark the beginning of Elul, a time of spiritual preparation for the High Holy Days, Rabbi Shlomo Amar said Jews must petition Israel’s lawmakers to prevent the influence of non-Orthodox movements in state and religious issues, the Jerusalem Post reported.</p> <p>These “liberals and reformers” have brought us to “our spiritual low point,” the rabbi wrote.</p> <p>“They now have their claws in the nation of Zion, and are trying to impose the lifestyle of other nations on us. They established legions of warriors in the Land of Israel, whose purpose is to remove Torah from Israel,” he wrote.</p> <p>Amar also called on Jews to pray for the non-Orthodox to “return to the right path.” <em>— jta</em></p>
