Israel’s most serious heat wave in at least three years has sparked major wildfires and record electricity use.

The temperature on June 22 hit 122 degrees in Eilat in the country’s south. Temperatures have averaged in the 90s for nearly a week, causing wildfires to break out in central Israel and near Jerusalem. Israelis’ electricity usage hit record numbers, but temperatures were expected to drop later in the week. — jta
