AMIT, Americans for Israel and Torah, will close its San Francisco office as of June 18.
“In the somewhat difficult economic times, we felt that it was time to consolidate,” said Barbara Goldberg, AMIT’s director of communications.
The office in Los Angeles will henceforth handle all activities in California.
Ava Brand served as the regional executive director for 27 years. She will continue to work part time in the Jewish community as a fundraising and organizational consultant, and also will turn her focus toward her jewelry making.
“This is a chance for me to start a new chapter while keeping a finger in the Jewish community by doing part-time work,” Brand said.
AMIT sponsors a network of vocational high schools, children’s villages, kindergartens, child care and other educational and social welfare programs in Israel.
With the San Francisco AMIT office on Judah Street closed, seven U.S. branches now remain: Los Angeles, Chicago, Cleveland, Florida, Boston, Baltimore and New York, its headquarters.
All Bay Area–related concerns can be directed to the Los Angeles office at (310) 859-4885.
