Bruce Edwards, M.D.
On a warm, beautiful Friday afternoon in San Francisco, Bruce Gensler Edwards, aged 61 years, passed peacefully and swiftly after living with Parkinson’s disease and dementia for many years. He was an outstanding physician of 35 years, a husband to adoring wife Sandy, father to two loving sons David and Gabe, brother to devoted sister Barbara Blum, a friend and relative to countless in whose memory he will always remain.
Bruce amassed more wonderful wine than one could drink in a lifetime, more great books than one could ever page through, because his ultimate reward was in sharing with everyone he loved.
Funeral services were held at Sinai Memorial Chapel, San Francisco with interment following at Home of Peace Cemetery, Colma.
Donations in Bruce’s memory may be made to UCSF Memory and Aging Center, Parkinson’s Institute in Sunnyvale, or Congregation Beth Sholom in San Francisco.
Hal Schepps
It is with great sadness that on Saturday April 24th, 2010, Hal Schepps passed away suddenly. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Beverly, daughters Robin, Jill, Randi, and son Lance and daughter-in-law Colleen, grandchildren Vanessa, Adam, Ryan, Laila, Taylor, Spencer, Chace, Daniella and great-grandson Hayden.
He was a much-loved resident of Sun City, Palm Desert, Discovery Bay, Marin County, and San Francisco. Born on March 24, 1925 in San Francisco, Hal graduated from Lowell High School after being recruited by the coach to play basketball. He attended the University of California at Berkeley and served in the Navy during WWII.
Hal was well known for his playful nature and good humor. His great loves in life were his wife Bev, his family, and bridge (in that order). He and Bev owned bridge clubs in Northern California. Hal served as a regional bridge director and was a life master. Bridge players around the world use a bridge convention known as the “Schepps Control,” a contribution to the tradition of bridge originated by Hal and Bev in 1986.
In 1963 Hal and Bev opened Kings Kustom Tuxedo Shop in San Rafael, which they owned for 25 years. They ran gift shops, as well as lectured and taught bridge, on board luxury cruise ships, and traveled around the world for many years.
Hal was a kind, extremely loving, sweet and wonderful man with each person he met in his life, always remembering everyone’s name. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the City of Hope in Hal’s memory.
There will be a second Memorial Service in Northern California at 11 a.m. May 11 at Congregation Rodef Sholom, 170 N. San Pedro Road, San Rafael, CA.
