The protesters, including a number of Israeli left-wing activists, were protesting the arrest of 10 senior Palestinian officials during a March 28 demonstration in Bethlehem. The latest protest took place at the Bitunia checkpoint, near Ofer Prison west of Ramallah.
The rioters tried to break through the checkpoint in order to reach Ofer Prison, where the detained senior officials are being held. According to the Israel Defense Forces, the protesters threw stones and caused disturbances.
