Three Border Guard officers were lightly injured and two rioters were arrested during clashes that broke out March 31 between 200 Palestinians and Israeli security forces near a security checkpoint.

The protesters, including a number of Israeli left-wing activists, were protesting the arrest of 10 senior Palestinian officials during a March 28 demonstration in Bethlehem. The latest protest took place at the Bitunia checkpoint, near Ofer Prison west of Ramallah.

The rioters tried to break through the checkpoint in order to reach Ofer Prison, where the detained senior officials are being held. According to the Israel Defense Forces, the protesters threw stones and caused disturbances. IDF soldiers and Border Guard officers fired tear gas into the crowd, and the checkpoint was closed following the incident. — ynetnews.com
