Message: <br /><br /> If you are having trouble reading this email, you may view this article online at: http://www.jweekly.com/57422/full/57422/senior-trip-goes-from-one-jcc-to-another/ <br /><br /> <b>Senior trip goes from one JCC to another</b> <br /> Friday, March 12, 2010 | by <br /><br /><p>The older adult services department at the JCC of the East Bay recently came up with an idea for a field trip — to another JCC.</p> <p>On Feb. 18, four seniors took advantage of the outing, which took them 42 miles from Berkeley to the Bay Area’s newest JCC, the Oshman Family JCC in Palo Alto.</p> <p>Upon arrival, the East Bay group had lunch with some of the seniors from Moldaw Family Residences, which, like the JCC, is located on the 5-month-old Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life.</p> <p>Volunteers from the Lace Museum in Sunnyvale gave a presentation following lunch.</p> <p>“We learned a lot of interesting lace facts,” said Lauren Greis, the East Bay JCC’s outreach coordinator.</p> <p>For instance, many men who served in the Navy during World War II knew how to tat, a technique for handcrafting lace with a series of knots and loops. The activity kept them busy during down time on the ship.</p> <p>Finally, the seniors from the East Bay got a tour of the new Taube Koret campus, and learned about the symbolic and environmental elements of the architecture.</p> <p>“Some of our seniors expressed interest in seeing the new facility [in Palo Alto],” Greis said. “They were excited ... and they were really impressed.”</p> <p> </p>
