The synagogue was founded in 1949 in San Francisco by 23 German Jewish wartime refugees who arrived via Shanghai, China.</p> <p>The celebration begins at Shabbat services on Friday, Dec. 11, with remarks and sermon by Rabbi Mark Melamut. On Saturday, Dec. 12, retired Rabbi Ted Alexander, a Shanghailander and spiritual leader of the congregation for 38 years, will lead services. A catered lunch honoring surviving founding members will follow.</p> <p>At 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, the congregation will host an open house at A Muse Gallery, 614 Alabama St., S.F. The event is open to the public and will feature wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres and a display of historical documents chronicling the story of B’nai Emunah through the years.
