Message: <br /><br /> If you are having trouble reading this email, you may view this article online at: http://www.jweekly.com/40740/full/40740/a-chilling-reminder-wild-happenings-still-working-the-room-short-shorts/ <br /><br /> <b>A chilling reminder, ‘Wild’ happenings, Still working the room, Short shorts …</b> <br /> Thursday, December 10, 2009 | by suzan berns <br /><br /><p><strong>A chilling reminder</strong></p> <p>Among the old newspapers displayed in “Schindler, The Exhibition,” now at the Petaluma Historical Museum and Library, is an April 28, 1938 edition of the San Francisco Chronicle with a banner headline reading “Nazis to Grab Jews’ Riches.”</p> <p>The exhibit was organized by the Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and includes, among other things, Schindler’s list — in its original form.</p> <p>There’s also a chilling photo of SS officer Amon Goeth sitting on his porch with a gun. You may recall the scene from the movie “Schindler’s List” in which actor Ralph Fiennes, who portrayed Goeth, shot Jewish prisoners working below.</p> <p>Hurry up if you want to see the exhibit, because it ends Sunday, Dec. 13. For more information, visit <a href="http://www.PetalumaMuseum.com">http://www.PetalumaMuseum.com</a>.</p> <p><strong><br />‘Wild’ happenings</strong></p> <p>Co-chairs of the Contemporary Jewish Museum’s first annual family gala <strong>Sam Hamilton</strong>, <strong>Jen Chaiken</strong>, and <strong>Julie and David Levine</strong> brought their families along to frolic among the “Where the Wild Things Are” monsters that are inhabiting the museum through Jan. 19.</p> <p>The Maurice Sendak classic is the basis for the CJM exhibit “There’s a Mystery There: Sendak on Sendak.” Among the hundreds of kids and kids-at-heart who also enjoyed the festivities were <strong>Lynn Bunim</strong> with family members <strong>Jane Burrows</strong> (her mom), <strong>Daniel Kramer</strong> and <strong>Caroline Kramer</strong>; <strong>Suzanne and Elliot Felson</strong> and children; <strong>Joyce Linker</strong> and her daughter; and <strong>Dana, Rich</strong>, <strong>Lauren and Sarah Steel</strong>.</p> <p><strong><br />Still working the room</strong></p> <p><strong>Susan RoAne</strong>, the ultimate mingling maven, writes that her first book “How to Work a Room” is “now an adult book.” That’s not to say it’s X-rated — it’s just that she wrote and published it in 1988, making it 21 years old.</p> <p>RoAne has written a number of follow-up books on business schmoozing and networking, including “Face to Face: How to Reclaim the Personal Touch in a Digital World.” Visit <a href="http://www.SusanRoAne.com">http://www.SusanRoAne.com</a> to test your own schmooze quotient and to read some of RoAne’s “Pithy Pointers,” such as: Good things do not come to those who wait … they come to those who initiate.</p> <p><br /><strong>Short shorts …</strong></p> <p><strong>Helen Manber</strong>, whose practice is in San Francisco, was named the Bay Area’s best dermatologist in SFGate’s “Baylist” feature … <strong>Sarita Bronstein</strong> of Redwood City reports that she has accepted a position as program director for the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, Bay Area Chapter … <strong>Dr. Neal Birnbaum</strong> of Kentfield, who specializes in rheumatology at California Pacific Medical Center, is one of the co-authors of the recently published “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Arthritis”… Jewish Vocational Services and its executive director, <strong>Abby Snay</strong>, plus several JVS clients, were interviewed for a Dec. 4 feature on “PBS NewsHour.” The story focused on challenges facing job-seekers 50 and over … Top finishers in the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame of Northern California Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament, held Nov. 14 in East Palo Alto, were (from first to sixth place): <strong>Joel Shaps</strong>, Los Altos; <strong>David Rock</strong>, Portola Valley; <strong>Barry Barnes</strong>, Piedmont; <strong>Mark Silverman</strong>, Fremont; <strong>Steve DeGraff</strong>, Burlingame; <strong>Gerry Ambinder</strong>, San Francisco.  Participants paid $100 to enter, with proceeds benefiting the JSHFNC, which has a newly erected location on the Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life in Palo Alto ... <strong>Roberta Steiner</strong> and <strong>Allan Farovitch</strong> of San Rafael report that their son, <strong>Aaron Farovitch</strong>, has been elected vice president of Internal Affairs of the Interfraternity Council of Syracuse University, where he’s a junior.</p> <p><br />This columnist can be reached at <strong><a href="mailto:faces@jweekly.com">faces@jweekly.com</a>. </strong></p>
