I've got to bask in the glow of such an endeavor -- considering I'm barely 5'2", it's unlikely that I'll be a runway model on a different occasion.</p> <p>The fashion show was organized by <a href="http://www.ajws.org">American Jewish World Service</a>, <a href="http://www.pjalliance.org">Progressive Jewish Alliance</a> and <a href="http://www.jccsf.org/hub_web/hub.htm">JCCSF's The Hub</a> as part of its second annual Rags to Righteousness, an event that seeks to expose the injustices of sweatshop labor and highlight the beauty of <a href="http://onazdesigns.com/">sustainably-made clothing</a>.</p> <p>I officially understand the allure of being a runway model. It is a huge adrenaline rush to be up there, under the bright lights. It gives you a license to walk with glamor, swing your hips, own your curves and work it like you're actually a 6'1" model wearing Diane von Furstenberg during Fashion Week.</p> <p>Plus, I got to wear a <a href="http://www.multiplethreads.org/">dress</a> made from reclaimed materials (mostly cut-up sweaters) and a <a href="http://www.livity.org/index.html">really cool hat</a>. </p> <p><img alt="fashion_show_small_360" height="192" src="/images/uploads/blog_art/1109/fashion_show_small_360.jpg" title="fashion_show_small_360" width="360" /></p> <p>Most notably, however, was that I got to share the runway with Bay Area activists of all ages, all of whom wore shirts, pants, dresses, skirts and <a href="http://www.organicclothes.com/">accessories</a> that were made by people earning living wages working in fair and safe conditions.</p> <p><img alt="group_shot_360" height="310" src="/images/uploads/blog_art/1109/group_shot_360.jpg" title="group_shot_360" width="360" /></p> <p>My thanks and gratitude to the event coordinators for giving me such a fun opportunity.</p>
