Tonight the duo will play a sold-out (like, seriously sold out, within minutes according to SFist) show at the Independent and tomorrow (Saturday) they headline the highly anticipated first night of the Treasure Island Festival on um, Treasure Island.</p> <p>According to <a href="http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1110421.html" target="_blank">Haaretz</a>, the hipster twosome (<span class="t13">Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden)</span> got their first break through <span class="t13">band manager Andrea Neustein, daughter of Israeli artist Joshua Neustein. All three attended </span><span class="t13">Wesleyan University together and Neustein had a funny feeling about the hairy rockers, she was blown away by their sound. Their next big break came when last year's infectious dance-y synth-pop song/video "Kids" became an insta summer classic. It was even featured on teen soap "Gossip Girl." Omg. </span></p> <p><img alt="451yo-la-tengo_288" height="202" src="/images/uploads/blog_art/1009/451yo-la-tengo_288.jpg" title="451yo-la-tengo_288" width="288" /></p> <p>On Sunday, another majorly hip Jewish indie rock act will take the stage during the second night of the Treasure Island Festival — <a href="http://www.yolatengo.com" target="_blank">Yo La Tengo</a>. The act, co-founded by Jewish vocalist-guitarist Ira Kaplan and his wifey vocalist-drummer Georgia Hubley, is well known among indie circles. As they should be — they've been rocking the experimental music crowd since the 1980s.</p> <p>Now audiophiles, good luck getting in to the fest — I'll see you on the island!</p> <p> </p>
