The conclave, expected to draw 500 to 1,000 people, is titled “Israel and America: Where the Peace Process and Campaign 2000 Intersect.” It runs from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Admission, which includes a kosher lunch, is $45 for the general public and $15 for students under age 25 with an ID.
The conference is presented by the AIPAC Pacific Northwest region, based in San Francisco. AIPAC, which stands for American Israel Public Affairs Committee, is a pro-Israel lobby of some 55,000 members nationwide.
The conference is supported by about 25 Bay Area synagogues and 35 Jewish organizations, including federations based in San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Oakland and Sacramento.
Other sponsors include the S.F.-based Jewish Community Relations Council, Hadassah, the S.F.-based Israel Center and the Consulate General of Israel.
David Makovsky, the keynote speaker, is the former editor of the Jerusalem Post and a current contributing editor to U.S. News and World Report.
Other participants include Mel Levine, a former Los Angeles Democratic congressman and a close adviser to presidential candidate Al Gore; Rep. Howard Berman (D-L.A.); Gary Samore, a special assistant to President Clinton; and Brig.-Gen. Eival Gilady of the Israel Defense Force.
