The mafia that smuggles them into Israel is responsible," said one man, who refused to give his name.<br /><br /> Halting demand is just as important as halting supply, according to the activists.<br /><br /> "The demand comes from the brainwashing men experience as they grow up," Nissan Ben-Ami explained.<br /><br /> "They are [taught] to believe that it is acceptable to do this to a woman," said Leah Gruenpeter Gold, who added that many men falsely think prostitutes enjoy their work.<br /><br /> The activists are lobbying to create legislation making it illegal to buy and sell women and to enact tougher sentences for those convicted of these crimes.</p> <p> </p>
