The Huffington Post reported this morning that Buckingham Palace guard Cameron Reilly has been relieved of his duties for the Royal Wedding™ this Friday because of racist and anti-Semitic comments he made on his Facebook page - oh, and also for calling future queen Kate Middleton a "posh [rhymes with witch]."
According to HuffPo, the 18-year-old Reilly wrote, among other unsavory things, that he was "watchin a massive jew gathering outside the window at the tower of london!! av never seen so many rabbi's in ma life." We here at j. HQ are a little bemused as to what exactly is anti-Semitic about that (unless using the term "Jew" is inherently anti-Semitic), but nonetheless, the atrocious grammar and spelling alone deserve punishment.
Reilly, who is Scottish, is part of the Scots Guard, which is slated to stand along the procession route from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace. Enjoy watching the wedding from your mum's settee, buddy!
I am SO glad to see this
artile! An anti-Semite gets his just desserts, (from official Authorities!), and it is reported in a widely-read website! (Not to mention also in THIS fine website—perhaps not so widely known….but certainly as knowledgeable!)
Yep—the remark WAS anti-semiic. Why? Because using the term “Jew” as an adjective is anti-semitic! The correct term is “JewISH”, of course. “Jew” is a NOUN!
To say “Jew-gathering”, or “Jew-woman”, or “Jew-holiday”, is intensely obnoxious…at least to me. Because the term, say, “Jew-Woman” seems to intimate that this woman is ONLY a Jew….and NOTHING else.
(Stereotypes, anyone?)The same as in “Jew-gathering”).
“JewISH woman” shows that this woman is other things, (secretary? beautiful? college student?) than just being a (stereotypical) Jew. “Jew-gathering” is the same. The ADJECTIVE “Jew-” here DEFINES the gathering, as if there can be only ONE type of gathering where Jews gather as a group. It’s the difference between “Jew-boy” and “Jewish boy”.
Hope this is clear!
P.S.: Please note the yalmeka- (or kippa)-wearng smilie in my title!
The last paragraph made me smile. Mr. Reilly deserved to be band on the Royal Wedding. What he did was an act of racism and discrimination. I remember one of the security guards of secrets of a millionaire mind who was also relieved from his job because of the things that he said to an Asian employee.
