I’m so excited I can hardly type. San Francisco's 2010 Treasure Island Festival (Oct. 16 & 17) lineup was just released this morning, and it’s better than ever. This year’s headliners are dance master LCD Soundsystem on Saturday night and weepy, elusive geniuses Belle & Sebastion on Sunday.
Even more thrilling — two of the major acts set to perform are the Jewish music world’s golden children.
On Saturday night, jittery electro indie musician Deadmau5 will shake up Treasure Island with video game style beats. Deadmau5 (a.k.a. Joel Zimmerman) is a Jewish DJ/producer who typically performs wearing a giant Styrofoam mouse head.
While it is presumptuous to call him Jewish, it is equally presumptuous to say or imply that he has not, because he has given not given any information on his background, as little is known about him. But with a name like ‘Joel Zimmerman’ it is reasonable to speculate that he has some Jewish heritage, although we can’t say for sure he is Jewish because he has said nothing on the topic.
