World Cup fever…at a Berkeley deli…in Israel

What could be better than sinking your teeth into a corned beef on rye while watching a World Cup match? Or maybe some scrambled eggs with salami, depending on what time of day it is.

That's what's been happening at Saul's Deli in Berkeley since the World Cup kicked off on Friday, June 11.

Since then, the Shattuck Avenue delicatessen has been showing the 7 a.m. game and the 11:30 a.m. game every day on its big screen. And it's quite a big screen, too. Very big.

There are games every day at those two times (Saul's is not showing the 4:30 a.m. games).

Schedule highlights from the first round include:

THURSDAY, JUNE 17: Mexico vs. France at 11:30 a.m.

FRIDAY, JUNE 18: Slovenia vs. the United States at 7 a.m.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 23:  United States vs. Algeria at 7 a.m.

The "knockout" round begins June 26 ... followed by the semifinals on July 6 and 7 ... and the championship on Sunday, July 11.
