Time to play a little game of name that (sort of) Jewish indie pop star: what daughter of a legendary Jewish-French singer and swinging 1960s mod actress recently released an album with the Scientologist son of a Jewish artist known for her antics with Andy Warhol’s factory?

Stumped? Why it’s the lithe and morose Charlotte Gainsbourg and Beck, of course. The former known for her acting in films such as “Science of Sleep” and her musical collaborations with Air (on 5:55), the latter an internationally-revered indie darling of such albums as Mellow Gold, Midnight Vultures and The Information.

Their collaborative album IRM (which was released two months ago) was partially inspired by Gainsbourg’s 2007 water skiing accident and subsequent medical procedures — she came to know the MRI machine quite well.

The Washington Post describes the duo’s joint efforts as “disjointed yet catchy… engaging and affecting.” Perfectly fitting for indie pop’s reigning king and queen.
