Fashionable and good for the planet!

This weekend I strut my stuff on the catwalk. I've got to bask in the glow of such an endeavor -- considering I'm barely 5'2", it's unlikely that I'll be a runway model on a different occasion.

The fashion show was organized by American Jewish World Service, Progressive Jewish Alliance and JCCSF's The Hub as part of its second annual Rags to Righteousness, an event that seeks to expose the injustices of sweatshop labor and highlight the beauty of sustainably-made clothing.

I officially understand the allure of being a runway model. It is a huge adrenaline rush to be up there, under the bright lights. It gives you a license to walk with glamor, swing your hips, own your curves and work it like you're actually a 6'1" model wearing Diane von Furstenberg during Fashion Week.

Plus, I got to wear a dress made from reclaimed materials (mostly cut-up sweaters) and a really cool hat

Most notably, however, was that I got to share the runway with Bay Area activists of all ages, all of whom wore shirts, pants, dresses, skirts and accessories that were made by people earning living wages working in fair and safe conditions.

My thanks and gratitude to the event coordinators for giving me such a fun opportunity.
