Olmert Heckled

Mr. Olmert is fortunate that he was visiting the U.S. and not other areas of the world that recognize war criminals for what they are:

Ehud Olmert could face war crimes arrest if he visits UK• Prosecution of Israelis likely, says solicitor
• Lawyers working on use of universal jurisdiction

use universal jurisdiction

If Israel stays passive it could be that Israeli tourists in Europe would get arrested just because they served in the army.

Israel used universal jurisdiction for Eichmann and should use it for killers of Jews at the community center in Argentina who are hiding in Iran, and for the Lockerbie bombers who are hiding in Libya.

Even though these killers are protected by authorities a standing warrant would be a notice that universal jurisdiction is not a one way game.

Indictment No Bar to Travel?

US Courts routinely require surrender of passports at the first appearance, as in the case of Sholom Rubashkin of the Agriprocessors case.

Why doesn’t Israel?
The failure of Israeli courts to demand the same politicizes criminal indictments, by saying that if the accused is important enough (i.e. has enough Protektzia), the law does not apply.
