Jews set a sweet Guinness World Record

A recent article from JTA got me thinking about one of my absolute favorite movies - "The Great Race."

Written and directed by Blake Edwards, the 1965 slapstick comedy is a spoof of the first around-the-world automobile race from New York to Paris.

The flick stars Jack Lemmon as the evil Professor Fate, Tony Curtis, aka the Great Leslie and Natalie Wood, who plays a young female photojournalist and suffragette named Maggie DuBois.

While the movie features one hilarious moment after another, there is a classic pie fight between the characters and pastry chefs that cracks me up every time I watch. If you've seen the movie, I guarantee you're chuckling.

Here's the JTA piece - perhaps the staff at j. should try to beat the record...what do you think?

British Jewish group sets pie-tossing record

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- A Jewish youth group in Britain set a new world record for largest custard pie fight.

The event, which took place Friday in East Mersea, Essex, involved 253 members of the Jewish Lads and Girls Brigade who threw 648 pies in a matter of moments, the Essex Daily Gazette reported.

An adjudicator from Guinness World Records attended to affirm the record.

Steve Weller, the group's activities coordinator, said the event was organized as a summer camp activity.

"Somebody challenged me to break a world record, and custard pies just came into my head," Weller said. "We did have 650 pies to start with, but I think two got eaten."
