Almost like a rallying cry, albeit a quiet one, Jewish director Judd Apatow appeared on Jon Stewart's talk show "The Daily Show" late last week and reminded him that many Jews feel the need to gentile-ify their name. Case in point, Jon Stewart himself, who was born Jon Leibowitz.

Apatow reminds Jon of this after describing a scene in his new film "Funny People" in which (Jewish) actor Seth Rogan is questioned by (Jewish) actor Adam Sandler about his decision to un-Jewify his last character's last name.

Then on Friday of last week Slate's

Or maybe not, this entry was written by Jewish woman with the Irish-Catholic last name of "Savage." But it is indeed my given name.
