Dress? Check. Flowers? Check. Surgical masks? Check.

A long, long time ago in a land far, far away, I went to journalism school with an extremely nice and funny girl named Ilana. I recently learned through a mutual friend that Ilana was getting married to her boyfriend, Jeremy.

The couple was set to tie the knot in Chicago on June 14. A few days before the wedding, they both started feeling rather poorly. They went to the doctor, and...well, I'll let you find out what happened next. Today's Chicago Tribune has a nice feature on the wedding that almost wasn't.

As I said to the aforementioned friend, who was at the wedding, I like to think that this was a case of "bad dress rehearsal, good opening night." Despite its rather inauspicious start, I think the karma gods are smiling down on this union. Mazel tov, Ilana and Jeremy! May your years together be healthy ones.
