New music from indie rock Jews1:55 pm Wednesday, June 17, 2009by emily savage Not one, but TWO new Jewish indie rock bands have been blowing my mind as of late. I will share with you, dear reader, just what makes them so special:
1) Girls in Trouble Key Jewish player: Alicia Jo Rabins, fiddler extraordinare Location: New York The gist: Began as a masters thesis for Rabins, the group evolved into a full blown indie pop act within the year. Rabins sings from the perspective of forgotten females from the Midrash. Album drops: August or September (Jdub) The website: www.myspace.com/girlsintroublemusic
2) LANDy Key Jewish player: actor/director/musician Adam Goldberg, guitar-playing crooner Location: Los Angeles The gist: While the songs aren't Jewish-themed, its bearded front man has become Hollywood's go-to Jew. It probably didn't hurt that he starred as Jewish superhero The Hebrew Hammer, but I digress. The band, which includes the Flaming Lips' Steven Drozd and Earlimart's Aaron Espinoza, play dreamy indie pop that will melt your bitter heart. Album drops: June 23 The website: www.myspace.com/landytheband Permalink Leave a comment Spread the Word E-mail a friend
