What does a Jewish mother look like?1:12 pm Wednesday, May 13, 2009by stacey palevsky In honor of Jewish American Heritage Month (and in celebration of Mother's Day), the Jewish Women's Archive has created a special photo collection about Jewish Mothers. "Jewish Mothers: The Way We Were, the Way We Are" is (so far) a digital photo album of 136 images of moms young and old uploaded by moms and daughters across the country. It's a delight to view a slideshow of the photographs, to see the indefinite ways in which Jewish mothers look and act. I highly recommend you browse the images. They'll make you smile. The Jewish Women's Archive will be collecting images all month, so if you want to participate, just click here. First you'll have to join Flickr (which is free and simple) then you can upload your images to the Jewish mommies group. According to JWA, "photos can show a Jewish mother, now or in the past, in any context — mothers at home or at work; mothers in the family and in the community; mothers of different generations and family constellations; formal portraits or candid snapshots."
