Balkan Beat Box remixes itself10:24 am Wednesday, April 8, 2009by emily savage
The energetic, genre-defying global collective that is Balkan Beat Box released their first remix album "Nu Made" (on JDub Records) yesterday, April 7 (cue the yelps of glee and bust out the dancing shoes). The album is stuffed full with remixes and re-workings of BBB's catalogue, and includes a previously unreleased track "Ramallah Tel Aviv." The new song's lyrics promote tolerance and peace through cultural exchange — a theme close to the group's figurative heart. Ori Kaplan (of Gogol Bordello) and Tamir Muskat (drummer of Firewater) formed the electronic-folk-etc. act in 2004. And oh how they've grown. The band blends audio-chunks of music from North Africa, the Middle East, the Balkans and Europe Europe to create their unique sound. Their first and second albums (self-titled and "Nu Med") will be reissued by Jdub to coincide with the release of "Nu Made." Starting March 1, JewishTVNetwork.com will stream, in its entirety, Balkan Beat Box's September 2008 concert at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. CommentsBe the first to comment! Leave a Comment
