The Guardian (UK) is reporting that Israeli satellite broadcaster Yes will air an Israeli version of the British TV show "The Office," starting next year.

In an interview with the Guardian, Ricky Gervais, the star of the original BBC version of the show, said, "I am thrilled and amazed that Israel are making 'The Office' with local writers, directors and actors. I mean, who ever heard of Jewish entertainers?"

The Jewish Daily Forward notes that the original "Office" and its remakes have been set in "less glamorous" cities - the UK version was set in Swindon, about two hours from London, and the American version is set in Scranton, Pa. I wait with bated breath to learn which of Israel's cities is deemed just uncool enough to "host" the show's mid-level paper company. Any guesses?
