M.I.A and a little Jewish family history11:29 am Wednesday, March 25, 2009by emily savage Undoubtedly you've heard of, listened to, or fallen in audio-love with singer M.I.A over the past few years. She's everywhere, from big music festivals around the globe to the hyperactive preview for 2008's "Pineapple Express" — which incidentally starred Jewish actors Seth Rogan and James Franco. What you may not have known about M.I.A. is that her fiance (and the father of her brand new baby boy) is Ben Brewer, the son of Edgar Bronfman Jr., a media giant who is currently the CEO of Warner Music Group. The Bronfmans have a long-running history as one of the wealthiest Jewish families in Canada. Bronfman Jr. is the son of philanthropist Edgar Bronfman and the grandson of Samuel Bronfman, founder of the Distillers Corporation Limited which purchaseed Seagram's in the 1920s. Edgar Bronfman Sr. was president of the World Jewish Congress in the 1980s and has given large amounts to Hillel and his own charitable program, the Bronfman Youth Fellowships (a program for Jewish youth). Additionally, he is the founder of MyJewishLearning.com. So will M.I.A. and Ben Brewer's baby, Ikyd Edgar Arular Bronfman, follow in his illustrious family's footsteps? Only time will tell...
