What’s new in Jewish comics?2:07 pm Thursday, March 5, 2009by rachel leibold
While I'm on the topic of comics, I should also take a minute to plug Dyspeptic Academic, a comic by fabulous artist (and Santa Rosa resident) Vanessa Davis. It was published last month on Nextbook.org, the Jewish culture and lit site. Vanessa has published several comics on Nextbook, but this one is probably my favorite since it's on a topic near and dear to my heart - being a Jewish day school girl. I just love Vanessa's work - the colors are so vibrant, and she's a pro at creating the perfect facial expression. (It being Purim next week, you should also check out a comic Vanessa did for Nextbook last year - Purimpalooza.) It was only pretty recently that I discovered the Jewish comix scene (and names like Miriam Libicki, Rutu Modan and Etgar Keret), and it's been one of my resolutions to delve into it more deeply. I'll probably be blogging about this more in the future, especially since Rutu Modan's "Jamilti and Other Stories" is next up on my to-read list.
