Girls’ hoops league starts this month at the Marin JCC
by A basketball league for girls in grades three to eight will begin Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Marin Jewish Community Center, 200 N., Each girl will participate in three pre-season clinics in December and nine practices and league games starting in January.

Volunteer director Max Shapiro -- who also created the MJCC's Marin Mini Hoops program for kindergarten through second-grade boys and girls -- will run the Girls Basketball Association. An experienced basketball coach, Shapiro is a past president of the MJCC, served as an National Basketball Association scout for four years and directed youth basketball camps for more than 20 years.
Each participant will receive a youth basketball and a JCC Girls Basketball Association T-shirt. Cost is $115 per player. To register, call Michael Saberman, youth basketball coordinator of the MJCC, at (415) 479-2000.
