Israel exhibit. Photographs of pre-state Israel by Armenian photographer Elia Kahvedjian, a refugee from the Armenian genocide. Through June 21. Also May 7 talk by the photographer’s granddaughter. At JCCSF, 3200 California St., S.F. 7 p.m. Free.

Santa Cruz photographer Sara Friedlander has assembled a wall of 22 stones she carved, painted and embedded with present-day and archival images of Jerusalem residents going about their day-to-day lives. Her exhibit, “Stonewalled in Jerusalem,”  attempts to communicate the struggle of both Israelis and Palestinians, and to open a dialogue among Jews like herself about the dilemma. On display through Aug. 25 at Oshman Family JCC, 3921 Fabian Way, Palo Alto. Artist talk and reception at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 16. Free.
