The Rolling Stones will finally play Israel — on June 4 in Tel Aviv’s Yarkon Park, Israeli promoter Shuki Weiss announced March 25.
Within hours boycotters were calling on the Brits to cancel.
Rafif Ziadah, who backs the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement against Israel, said the Rolling Stones had criticized the apartheid regime in South Africa. He compared it to Israel, which he claimed also practices a policy of segregation.
“The Palestinian organizations urge the Rolling Stones: Do not play in apartheid Israel and do not overlook [their] violations of international law and human rights against the Palestinian people,” he said.
Tickets for the Stones’ first-ever concert in the Jewish state go on sale Sunday, March 30 at 9 a.m. Prices range from $200 to $820 for VIP seats.
“For the first time in my 35 years in the business I have no words to express the size of an event of this kind in Israel,” Weiss told reporters, confirming after months of speculation that the concert would take place. — ynetnews.com
