The Bay Area chapter of Friends of the Israel Defense Forces has helped launch “Holiday Packages for Heroes,” an online campaign for Purim gifts.

The campaign aims to raise funds for Purim care packages to be sent to lone soldiers — people who choose to leave their countries of origin to serve in the Israeli military. There are approximately 2,500 lone soldiers at any given time, according to the IDF.

People are asked to donate $36 for a package, which will be filled with food and holiday items to boost the solders’ morale. To donate or for more information, visit
