South Bay Shorts Child-rearing class to begin in Belmont

Beth David scholar is violinist, historian

Historian, filmmaker and klezmer violinist Yale Strom will be Congregation Beth David's scholar-in-residence Friday, Dec. 5 through Sunday, Dec. 7 at 19700 Prospect Road, Saratoga.

Friday's lecture will be on "The Journey Toward Rediscovery: Searching for the Remnants of Jewishness in Post-War Eastern Europe." His talk on Shabbat morning will be "The Role of the American Jewish Artist in the Revival of Jewish Culture in Eastern Europe."

After havdallah on Saturday, Strom will screen his film "Carpati: 50 Miles, 50 Years," and present a concert with Geoff Pekarik and Norbet Stachel. Admission is $20. For information, call Marie Bloom at the synagogue, (408) 257-3333.

Four classes offered at Peninsula Sinai

Lehrhaus Judaica and the Peninsula Academy of Jewish Education are offering four classes at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2 and Dec. 9 at Peninsula Sinai Congregation, 499 Boothbay Ave., Foster City.

They include "Facing History and Ourselves: The Legacies of Nuremberg after 50 Years," "A Guided Tour of the Prayerbook," "Great Jewish Athletes of the 20th Century" and "Chanukah: The Real Stories." Tuition is $20 to $30. For information, call (510) 845-6420.
