Andy Statman
Musical virtuoso. Clarinet and mandolin master Andy Statman will perform a blend of American roots music, avant-garde jazz and prayerful music in Santa Cruz. Statman got an early start on his musical journey, singing Hassidic melodies and learning klezmer songs as a child in New York; he is a 2012 recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts national heritage fellowship. Join Statman before the concert with your instrument for a musical workshop, where he’ll give pointers on technique. Hosted by Chabad by the Sea. 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 4 at Kuumbwa Jazz Center, 320 Cedar St., Santa Cruz.  $25-$30 concert; $50 workshop.
