The S.F.-based Jewish Community Federation is gearing up for its annual Super Sunday fundraiser this weekend on Sunday, Feb. 9.

Federation communications director Ilan Kayatsky says the event is one of the few times during the year when community members from many organizations come together in one room to fundraise. More than 150 volunteers have signed up to make phone calls from the JCC of San Francisco in two shifts, 9 a.m. to noon and 4 to 7 p.m.

“Super Sunday has been a truly special day for our Jewish community for over 30 years. It’s a wonderful opportunity for person-to-person connections among members of the community,” said  CEO Jennifer Gorovitz.

In previous years volunteers sat in one large room and used landlines, but organizers now ask that people bring their cellphones — and chargers.

At last year’s Super Sunday, 180 callers raised “between $700,000 and $800,000” for the San Francisco agency, according to Kayatsky. The federation hopes for similar results this year. Along with raising money, volunteers at Super Sunday can take part in a blood drive in honor of federation activist Ann Bear, who died last year.

Super Sunday is an annual project that most of the country’s 155 Jewish federations take part in to raise money for their local communities, as well as Israeli and Jewish causes around the world. To participate, contact the federation at — j. staff
