The JCC of San Francisco is preparing to lead a trip to Uruguay this spring as part of the center’s world travel program. This trip is unique among Jewish tours to South America in that it goes beyond Argentina, pointed out Ariel Goldstein, travel manager at the JCCSF and a native Uruguayan.
While Uruguay has the smallest population of any South American country, it does features a vibrant Jewish community, said Goldstein, who will be leading the trip March 12-24, 2014. The trip will also go to Argentina and will include a stop at Moisesville, a Jewish cowboy village founded in the late 19th century.
To whet people’s appetite, a screening of the documentary “Legacy” (about Jews who settled in Argentina) and an information session is slated for 4 p.m. Oct. 13 at the JCCSF. Uruguayan diplomat Fernando Sasco Caselli and Goldstein will speak, and alfajores (South American cookies) will be served.
