Those who attend Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services at Touro University California this year will not only take part in the Days of Awe. They will get an awesome view as well.
Held in the Farragut Inn on the Touro campus — itself on the site of the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard — the free services will have as a backdrop a sweeping view of the Napa River and Vallejo on the opposite shore.
Rabbi Elchonon Tenenbaum, the rabbi of Chabad Napa Valley as well as Touro’s director of campus life, says all are welcome to attend.
This is the sixth year Tenenbaum has been leading Chabad’s High Holy Day services at Touro California, a Jewish-sponsored medical and public health graduate school. The rabbi noted that the services in the past have drawn around 70 people, attracted to what he calls a “less formal” experience.
The Farragut Inn, named after David G. Farragut, an admiral in the Navy who commissioned the Mare Island Navy Yard in 1858 and served in the Civil War, is located at 1750 Club Drive, Vallejo. Rosh Hashanah services begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, and continue through Sept. 6. There will also be Yom Kippur services Sept. 13-14.
