Feinstein expanding assault weapon focus

by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, under flak from Jewish groups for her campaign to get Israel to cancel a proposed export of assault weapo, "In no way is she singling out Israel," a spokesman at her Washington D.C. office said.

Her spokesman denied she showed ire at those countries in response to concern among Jewish groups. "The bottom line is she wanted to stop these weapons from coming into the United States," he said.

The senator criticized Israel first because "she had the most information about Israel," he said, noting that a majority of Jewish groups support her effort to stop Israel's export of the weapons.

Feinstein long has been an opponent of assault weapons.
