Urban Adamah in Berkeley is hosting “Sunday Skillshare and Swap Meet” to shed light on the teachings and values of shmita. Known as the sabbatical year for Israeli farmers, shmita is a biblical Jewish tradition observed every seventh year.

The event is 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 at the Urban Adamah farm, 1050 Parker St., Berkeley. It is co-presented by Hazon, and most of it is free.

An exchange market starting at 1 p.m. is for “usable items lying around your house that you no longer use … donate what you can and receive what you need!” Workshops start at 2 p.m.; topics include raising backyard chickens, beekeeping and fermentation. The beekeeping workshop is the only one with a charge.
