Do you have a family member with Alzheimer’s disease?

A comprehensive course provided by the Alzheimer’s Association will provide clinical-level training in Berkeley for family caregivers over the course of six weeks, starting May 7. The Savvy Caregiver Training Program, co-sponsored by Jewish Family and Children’s Services of the East Bay, is geared for those who want to go beyond introductory education offerings.

The course offers more than 12 hours of face-to-face training with dementia experts, as well as a caregiver manual and CD-ROM. Strategies to manage stress, make decisions and manage activities of daily living are also covered.

Classes meet Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on May 7, 14, 21, 28 and June 4 and 11 at JFCS’s Suse Moyal Center for Older Adult Services, 2484 Shattuck Ave., in Berkeley. Participants are asked to commit to attending all meetings (light dinner will be provided). There is no fee.

Pre-registration and phone pre-screening is required. Space is limited. Contact Rob Tufel, director of JFCS East Bay Adult Services: (510) 558-7800, ext. 352 or email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
