Registration opened last week for the second annual Limmud Bay Area, scheduled for Feb. 17-18 at the Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, on the Monterey Peninsula.
Limmud is a global grassroots-led Jewish learning phenomenon that got its start 33 years ago in England and now takes place in more than 60 locations worldwide. At Limmud Bay Area’s inaugural run in February at Asilomar, some 300 conference goers spent 36 hours engaged in Jewish learning, with every session taught by volunteer teacher-participants. The whole thing is run by volunteers, in fact, and about one-quarter of the attendees also taught sessions, which included Talmud, meditation, arts and crafts, science and Torah, food justice, a “Fiddler on the Roof” sing-along and more.
Costs for the weekend range from $140 to $280 for adults, and $45 to $120 for children and teens, which include accommodations, meals and classes. In addition, volunteers of all kinds, including presenters, are still being sought, and expertise is not required. For information and to register, visit http://www.limmudbayarea.org.
